FAMILY 1-21-07 - Fort Riley, Kansas "Max" is going
to be staying with us until His "Dad" gets back from Iraq in March. He is the "leader of the pack" (actually
that is me)..or thinks he is. He is the one in the center of the group picture up above.
3-19-07 Max went home with his "dad" today, we will miss him.
A little info about the puppies:
1-31-07 - Well at this point the puppies are veteran stair climbers. They
now follow Mom (Greta) in a thundering herd from their kennel and through the garage and up the stairs to hang out in the
livingroom. We tried to take some more pictures today.. we got mostly blurs of them moving and then unidentifiable heaps
of puppies at nap time. They do not sit still and pose for photos. LoL They spend about half the
day in the livingroom (It is cold outside! not that they mind the cold)...and usually not a single "accident" to clean
up. They still just tolerate our cats.
While it is awfully early to predict a puppy's mature personality, we can offer some descriptions
at this point in time. Your Puppy's mature personality is largely going to be shaped by you as he or she grows
up with you and your family and receives re-inforcement of desired behavior and appropriate discouragement of undesireable
behaviors. Training, patience and attention are a must.
Puppy #1 (Boy with Black/Blue collar) is absolutely the friendliest and most loving of the whole bunch. He is always the first puppy to run up
to us and wants to be petted and held. He has the most active bubbly personality of this litter. 1-31-07 UPDATE.. He
is still first in line for tummy rubs. THIS BOY IS GOING TO THE MUTO FAMILY IN NEW YORK
Puppy #2 (GIRL with RED COLLAR) is one of 3 girls in
this litter. She is femine in appearance and is a Classic Black and Tan GSD. She has a sweet personality and is
intelligent and loving. SHE IS GOING TO THE JONES FAMILY IN LOCKPORT, IL (Chicago)
Puppy #3 (Boy with Black collar) is more laid back and calm.
He appears to appreciate attention and pets but he is willing to wait his turn and not get excited. I suspect he will be a
very calm steady personality. Very solid. 2-7-07 his personality is emerging rapidly and he now wants more pets.
HE IS GOING TO STEPHEN IN ST. LOUIS, MO.
Puppy # 4 (Boy with BLUE COLLAR) is a classic Black and Tan
German Shepherd Puppy. He has good spirit and accepts attention (like being held) well. He displays intelligence
and attention and is quite handsome.
Puppy #5 (Girl with Pink Collar) She is fairly calm
and laid back too. Being one of 3 girls having to cope with 5 bouncy boys she is more willing to wait her turn for attention.
She seems to appreciate attention and is very willing to be held and loved on. Very cute. UPDATE 1-31-07 Over the last couple
of weeks her coat has been lightening somewhat and it looks like she may tend a little more to her mother's coat color.
Very pretty. The other two girls take after Dad with a darker coat. Her personality is emerging more
and she is usually right in there with Puppy #1 and #6 vying for attention and pets first. We really like how she is coming
along.
Puppy #6 (GIRL with RED & BLACK COLLAR) It
is hard to tell her from her two sisters especially Puppy Girl #2. Frankly this whole litter is amazingly consistent....good
breeding shows. She is affectionate and displays intelligence and is cooperative with handling and being worked with. Very
cute little girl. UPDATE...as of 1-31-07 her personality has been coming out more and she is now in strong competition
with Puppy #1 in terms of wanting attention and being playful. 2-7-07 she is now the attention hog of the bunch!
Puppy #7 (Boy with GREEN COLLAR). This is a classic
handsome Black and Tan male. He has a calm temperament and displays watchful intelligence. He accepts handling
well and is also playful. 2-11-07 Update: He has a very nice personality.
On the Volhard puppy aptitude test we would rate him about a 3 leaning toward a 4. He has good confidence, but is not
the puppy that barks first...that is #8. But, frankly results on aptitude/ temperament tests will vary and change over
time. For instance he has always been accepting of being held even on his back like a baby. He is not overly
affectionate like Puppy #1 was or like Puppies 5 and 6 are at this time. He is a little more reserved around strangers
but friendly. A fantastic puppy!
Puppy #8 (Boy with GOLD COLLAR) This guy is a little
stud. He is one of the few puppies we have ever seen that had his ears up at around 5 weeks. Of course they flopped
back down as expected later. He displays a quiet solid temperament and watchful ntelligence. HE IS GOING
TO FORT RILEY KANSAS AS SOON AS HIS "DAD" GETS BACK FROM A TOUR IN IRAQ
Overall I would be hard pressed to choose myself. If you want what we suspect will be a very affectionate
puppy...pick #1 (#5 and #6 are now vying for attention more and more), if you want a watchful more laid back puppy pick
# 4 or #7 both handsome boys and Girls #5 and #6 are both going to be sweet girls
